    MSME Competitive (Lean) Scheme

    Purpose:

    Helps MSMEs adopt Lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, visual management, value-stream mapping, Poka-Yoke and waste reduction to improve productivity and quality.

    Available online across India for eligible enterprises. As of 7 July 2026, the scheme portal reported over 66,000 MSME registrations. [ramp.msme.gov.in]

    Applicable Fee

    Registration, Lean Pledge and Basic-level participation are generally free. For Intermediate and Advanced implementation, the MSME bears the applicable balance after the Government’s 90% subsidy on eligible consultant fees. [ramp.msme.gov.in], [leanmsme-s…qci.org.in]

    Mode of Fee Payment

    Any beneficiary contribution must be paid only through the official portal or prescribed authorised mechanism. Avoid unauthorised consultants or agents.

    Decision-Making Authority

    Office of the Development Commissioner, MSME; implemented through designated agencies, including the National Productivity Council.
    Important Eligibility Conditions Must have a valid Udyam Registration. Common Facility Centres under SFURTI and MSE-CDP are also eligible.
    The applicant must register, take the Lean Pledge and complete the requirements for the selected level.

    Time Required for Decision

    Varies by level. The Basic level is designed for approximately two months; Intermediate and Advanced levels require longer implementation and assessment periods.

    Benefits:

    Handholding by empanelled Lean consultants, lower rejection and production costs, better resource use, quality improvement and digital readiness. Government provides 90% subsidy on eligible consultant implementation fees.
